Privacy Notice
Last updated 15 October 2026
The website runemarkers.net (the "site") is a curated collection of RuneLite tile markers for Old School RuneScape. This notice explains how personal data is processed when you visit the site, contact us or are credited on the site. "We", "us" and "our" refer to the controller named in section 11.
1. Data collected when you visit the site
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which receives your IP address and details of each request to the site, such as the page requested and your browser type. If a request to the site fails, your browser may also send Cloudflare an error report containing technical details such as the address requested and the type of error. Cloudflare does not log your IP address with these reports. Cloudflare acts as our processor for the data it makes available to us, and otherwise as a controller under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
When a map is displayed, your browser loads the map images from GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com). On pages with a guide video, it loads a preview image from YouTube, which is operated by Google LLC. The video player loads only if you select the preview; it then plays and sends Google playback statistics. GitHub and Google receive your IP address and details of these requests, and act as controllers under GitHub's privacy statement and Google's privacy policy.
You are not required by law or contract to provide this data, but without your IP address and the details of your requests, the site and its maps and videos cannot be displayed to you.
2. Cookies and information stored on your device
The site does not set cookies. If you select a video preview, YouTube's player stores information in your browser, such as your caption setting, an estimate of your connection speed and cached icons, to remember your settings, adapt playback to your connection and load more quickly. You can object to this storage, free of charge, by not selecting the preview, and can remove it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
3. Purposes and lawful basis
We process the data described in section 1 on the basis of our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) in providing the site's curated collection of RuneLite tile markers, with its maps and guide videos, and in keeping the site secure and reliable.
4. Contacting us
If you email us or message us on our Discord server, we use your contact details and the contents of your message to reply to and deal with your message. Where your message is a request or complaint under sections 8 to 10, we do so to meet our legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c) UK GDPR); otherwise, we do so on the basis of our legitimate interests in dealing with messages about the site. Emails sent to [email protected] are forwarded by Cloudflare to our mailbox, which is provided by Proton AG. Discord processes Discord messages as a controller under Discord's privacy policy. You are not required by law or contract to contact us, but we cannot reply without your contact details.
5. Credits published on the site
Tile marker pages may credit the source of their markers, such as a YouTube channel, an online handle or a community. The credits are taken from the publicly available videos, posts and repositories the markers come from, or are provided by contributors. Before we credit someone who shared markers with us on our Discord server, we ask whether and how they would like to be credited. We publish the credits on the site and in its public source code on GitHub to attribute the work, on the basis of our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR), for as long as the markers are listed; earlier versions of the source code, including credits since changed or removed, remain available on GitHub. To ask for a credit to be changed or removed, email [email protected].
6. Retention
Cloudflare's domain analytics show us aggregate figures, such as requests, unique visitors and top countries. Cloudflare's security dashboard shows us sampled details of individual requests, including IP addresses, for up to 31 days. We do not export or keep our own copies of this data. Cloudflare, GitHub and Google keep the data they hold as controllers for the periods set out in their privacy policies.
We keep emails for as long as needed to deal with your message and any related request or complaint. Cloudflare's Email Routing logs, which show us the sender, recipient and subject of each email sent to [email protected], are available to us for up to 31 days. Discord messages remain on Discord until they are deleted.
7. International transfers
Cloudflare, GitHub and Google may process personal data in the United States. Each participates in the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (see the Data Privacy Framework list), so transfers to them are covered by the Data Protection (Adequacy) (United States of America) Regulations 2023, which have effect as regulations under Article 45A UK GDPR. Cloudflare's data processing addendum also provides for the EU standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum as a fallback. Proton AG is based in Switzerland, which UK law recognises as providing adequate protection.
8. Your rights
You have the right to request access to, rectification or erasure of, or restriction of the processing of your personal data. To make a request, email [email protected]. To locate any data relating to you, we may ask for your IP address and the approximate time of your visit.
9. Your right to object
You have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing of your personal data based on our legitimate interests. To object, email [email protected].
10. Complaints
You have the right to complain to us about our use of your personal data. To complain, email [email protected]. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and, without undue delay, make appropriate enquiries, keep you informed of progress and tell you the outcome. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commission (ICO).
11. Controller and contact details
Jamie Young, who runs the site as a non-commercial personal project, is the controller of the personal data described in this notice. Each organisation that this notice names as a controller is responsible for its own processing. You can contact us at [email protected].
